About Shayna

"As a child I loved the freedom of movement, believing I could fly at night after everyone had gone to bed.

I have memories of flying out of my bedroom window and over empty streets and moonlit coastlines. The feeling of the body moving freely through space has always appealed to me - walking ,riding, swimming, dancing - my body is always happiest through movement.

It was my sister that introduced me to Pilates, she had been attending classes and showed me some of the exercises. I could not make it to Pilates classes at the time, so I practiced at home on the carpet. My son would crawl under my legs as I lifted them, he enjoyed it as much as I did.

During stressful times I would draw on Pilates. I found it helped me with anxiety. It stilled my mind and made me aware of my posture and the movement of my body.It was after my son started school that I attended classes at a Pilates studio, which enriched my passion for of it. I soon knew this passion would become my career path.

In 2011, I began my study into Pilate's. It was hard work and challenging at times, but with a little perseverance I graduated.

I was lucky enough to find a job teaching while I was completing my training. In 2014, I opened my very own studio.

I still continue to grow in my knowledge of the body. I am inspired and in awe of our bodies capacity to grow, heal, learn, remember and influence our state of mind. Pilates for me is a gift given to the world by Joesph Pilates, for all to love, share and embrace. It is not a fashion statement or a get fit quick scheme. It is a movement to be learned and enjoyed."

Straight Up Pilates offers a unique 'in home' service. These classes are done in the comfort and privacy of your home, where Shayna will guide you through a full Pilate's session.
